Scope of the course (Solg 203)

The focus of this course is to provide or describe the historical, geographical, political, and economic explanations as far as Nigerian Society is concerned. It begins on the premise that appropriate understanding of the society and how it works or functions requires a comprehensive analysis of its structure.

This is because society is related to a human organism/body that has various components or units working together to maintain what is considered a structure. Deriving from this explanation means that the Nigerian society has to be explored from the:

• Historical perspective

• Geographical perspective

• Political perspective

• Economic perspective

In addition, we are to examine the relationship among the various dimensions that make up the Social Structure.
