Introduction
Statistics (from German: Statistik, orig. "description of a state, a country") is the discipline that concerns the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data.
Statistic refers to mathematical science that deals with
the collection, recording, documentation, organisation,
summarization, analysis of numeric data, as well as
drawing rapid conclusion to making reasonable decision
on the basis of the analysis carried on.
Also, statistics is the systematic or scientific collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data to make informed decision.
In simple terms, it helps us make sense of large amounts of information by summarizing it and drawing meaningful conclusions.
Types Of Statistics
There are two types of statistics; Descriptive and Inferential Statistics
- Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive Statistics involve methods used to summarize, organize, and describe the important features of a set of data. They do not go beyond the data at hand — they simply present what the data show.
A type of statistics that is concerns with the collection, calculating or certain index and graphical display any conclusion about a large group is known as Descriptive statistics.
- Inferential Statistics
Inferential statistics involve techniques that allow us to make generalizations, predictions, or inferences about a larger population based on data collected from a sample.
A type of statistics that is basically concerned with
making general statement or inferences about a large group of population is known as Inferential statistics. Making inferences about population, from sample, testing, hypothesis, or making prediction are attributed to Inferential statistics.
Importance of Statistics
Statistics is very important in various aspects of life, education, business, and governance. It helps in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data in a meaningful way. Below are key points explaining its importance:
